DESCRIPTION:  Located in the heart of Southeast Washington's wine country, historic Walla Walla (pop. 30,000) is a thriving community filled with so many activities and beautiful sights that you'll never want to leave. Named one of America's Great Main Streets by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, downtown Walla Walla is a favorite destination. Museums abound, as do art galleries, shops, dramatic productions, indoor and outdoor concerts, cafe's and restaurants, wineries and tasting rooms. With all four seasons on display, you'll find year-round outdoor activities, including nearby snow skiing, floating on our rivers and lakes, hiking in the mountains or just picnicking with your family.

The Public Works Department is a full service municipal department responsible for the planning, programming, construction, maintenance and operations of the city's utilities and streets/roads. The department has a total operating, capital, debt service and reserve budgets of approximately $33 million, and about 70 FTE in the 2008 budget. Public Works is involved in providing public services and utilities and contributing to public health and safety. The major divisions of the department include Engineering, Fleet Services, Landfill, Sanitation, Street, Wastewater and Water.

A bachelor's degree in public administration, civil engineering or closely related field is required. Eight years managerial experience in a municipal or public works environment is required. Master's level work in any of the above fields is desirable. Current registration as a Professional Civil Engineer is also preferred but not required.
