COMPENSATION:

DESCRIPTION:  Riverside, IL (population 8,995). Mature and historic suburban community seeks experienced, proven, public works professional to lead the department of 9 full-time employees (plus seasonal) with an approximate $3.4 million budget. Riverside, located 12 miles west of Chicago in western Cook County is a primarily residential community originally conceived and planned in 1869 as a model suburb by Fredrick Law Olmsted. The Village is the only community to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated a National Historic Landmark. The Village operates under Council/Manager government.

The Village offers a high quality of life, fine homes, comfortable neighborhoods and historic downtown business district. Public Works provides all traditional municipal services in a high quality-of-service environment; with active urban forestry, grounds, streets, parks and stormwater programs. The Director of Public Works reports directly to the Village Manager and works closely with Board committees and other administrative staff members.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, public administration, environmental science, construction management or related field required with a  minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible management and/or supervisory experience at the public works/utility administrator, assistant department head or superintendent level, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Civil engineering educational degree is strongly preferred, P.E. license highly desirable for position duties. Solid capital project planning and implementation, hands-on management/operations supervision, facilities management, budgeting and communication/interpersonal skills important.
