Nestled at the base of the Cascade foothills, Arlington residents enjoy small town atmosphere and the natural beauty of country living, yet are just a short drive to Seattle’s big city amenities. The Arlington Fire Department provides the citizens of Arlington and the adjoining Snohomish County Fire Protection District 21 with fire suppression services, emergency medical services, fire and life safety education, citywide emergency preparedness planning and response oversight, and annual fire and hazard prevention inspection programs. The department has 30 career personnel, including a Deputy Fire Chief, a Medical Services Administrator, 6 Captains, 10 paramedics, 11 Firefighter/EMTs, and an administrative support person, and 30 part-paid personnel. Reporting to the City Administrator, the Fire Chief is responsible for all fire and EMS services and for the development and implementation of goals and objectives for the department, as well as management of the department’s $4,619,567 combined fire and EMS budgets. A Bachelor’s degree in fire science, public administration, or a related field is desired; a Master’s degree is preferable. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of seven to ten years of experience in a comparable or larger agency with extensive experience in a senior management role such as Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, or Operations Chief.
